Much like energy never being lost or created, is it possible that information could neither be lost nor created and instead just exists. Information as we know it exists in the form of energy, or in an arrangement of particles that are representative of a unique collection in space/time. Now, I am a simple computer analyst with no history of mathematics or real science. However, based on what I have heard through various articles on the internet and TV shows, my understanding is that the theories of energy seem to apply in that for positive energy, there must be a counterpart of negative energy. For every piece of information, there should be an anti-information that exists (or maybe doesn't exist but leaves a void). When the two meet, I would imagine that information is lost. Yes, if we look at a historical perspective we could potentially recreate the information, however, at the point of a singularity, the information would be an infinite nothingness either containing literally all the information that has ever existed, or containing no information whatsoever because the positive information and the negative information came together and canceled each other out.
Think of binary information. Once a 1 is a 0, the state has changed. While it may still be information, it is no longer the same information. To know what the information was before would take something capable of reconstructing it. However, what would happen if a 0 and a 1 had counterparts of -0 (yes, I know, more like anti-zero) and -1. When these would meet, I would imagine a scenario where the two would cease to exist and be returned to nothingness. Information has to exist on or in something, doesn't it? And if information were cancelled out or negated, it would cease to exist.
Maybe instead of stating that information is never lost, it should be stated that information is not lost once outside of a singularity. Or maybe a clearer definition of "never" should be determined since there are theories stating that a singularity is the conception point of time itself so our "never" would have to live within the confines of what we consider "time".
My main thought is that information never being lost implies that there is a way to reconstruct it from a reference point. Where is the line drawn between information and just energy or matter?
This is just me thinking "out loud"... I need to put some more brain cycles around this. I don't even remember how I started thinking about this one to be honest!
